The author, as a veterinary surgeon, had for many years norival in England; his close observation, unremitted industry, andextensive practice in the veterinary art, enabled him, during aseries of years, to lay up a store of information on these subjectsthat no other individual could have possibly collected. Youattsattention, either from choice or the force of circumstances, wasparticularly directed to the study of the history and pathology ofthe canine race; and sportsmen cannot be too thankful for themuch useful matter that this practical writer has embodied in hiswork; and which, by-tlie-by, was only given to the public a shorttime before the close of an honorable life, the greater portion ofwhich was spent in the noble effort to alleviate the suiferings,lighten the labors, exalt the position, and teach the inestimableworth, of our domestic animals.
