Collected comet drawings, published in Specula Physico-Mathematico-Historica (1696), a book by the German monk and author Johann Zahn (1641-1707). Among other things, this book contained a list of comets from the Deluge up to 1682. The appearance of comets in the night sky varies greatly depending on their composition, their size, how close they approach the Earth, and how close they approach the Sun. These factors also affect the size and shape of a comet's tail.
