Melaphyr is a volcanic rock with a characteristic makeup named porphyritic. Small voids in a finely textured basaltic host-rock are fully or partly filled with quartz, feldspar, calcite or other minerals, which may be amorphous or microcrystalline. An ancient German name for this basalt type is \Mandelstein\" or almond-rock, which refers to the almond shape the inclusions often display. Actual width is 200 mm."
