The regular meeting of the Saginaw- Bay City Floricultural Society was held December 4, at the store of E. L. Leidy, in Bay City. The exhibition of roses at this meeting was most interesting. Exhibits were made by Boehringer Bros., E. L. Leidy, John Marsh and Martin Keit, of Bay City; Grohman the Florist, Wm. Eoethke Floral Co., Chas. Frueh & Sons and J. B. Goetz Sons, of Saginaw. The attendance was the larg- est in several months. John Irvine and C. O. Wilcox acted as judges and awarded the honors as follows: J. B. Goetz Sons, first; the "Wm. Eoethke Floral Co., second; Chas. Frueh & Sons, third; Boehringer Bros., fourth; Groh- man the Florist, fifth. J. B, Goetz Sons had the largest display and the great- est number of varieties. Speaking of the quality of roses grown in northeastern Michigan, it is amazing what can be done with a little care and patience. Eoses with 4-foot stems were shown and many of the vases contained roses with 3-foot stems. Hadley, Eichmond, Hoosier Beauty, Shawyer, Killarney, Mock, Ophelia, Eus- sell, Sunburst, Ward, Kaiserin and White Killarney were the varieties shown. Large, heavy buds, stiff stems and nice, clean foliage characterized the flowers shown. Taking the weather during the month of November into consideration, much credit is due the growers. The judges expressed much pleasure at being able to judge so splen- did a showing of roses. Members from out of town were: Mr. and Mrs. E. H, Adams, of Chesaning; C. A. Hawley, of Vassar; A. J. Packer, of Caro; C. 0. Wilcox, of the W. W. Barnard Co., Chicago. Mr. Wilcox said it was a wonderful showing of roses, comprising as good stock as he had seen anywhere. Gee, Columbus, O.—Friends of Frank Miller and wife, of the Columbus Floral Co., were sorry to hear they were going to the hospital for an operation on Mr. Miller for rupture and treatment for burns received three y
