There are six varieties of this breed, the Silver Spangled, Golden Spangled, Silver Laced, Golden Laced, White, and Fig. 19.—Golden Spangled Hamburgs. The first named variety is probably the most popular. Hamburgs are economical fowls to keep, beside being small eaters, they are great foragers. The only serious objection to them is the small- ness of their egg. By careful selection this may be remedied and the size of the egg improved. One of the distinctive features of the Hamburg is its rose comb, which should be developed into a straight spike.
