The month of August is gone and there has been nothing for us to brag -about except the wonderful variety of weather we have had. This has been a record-breaking year for storms, much of the time too cold for comfort. The retail shops all have a better appear- ance than in former years. All look clean and fresh, with haiidsome palms and ferns and with really choice flowers to handle, so that the old objection to summer, that there is nothing fit to sell, is not true and you can go the rounds and not see an objectionable vase of flowers. The day of tuberoses, bi^lsams and petunias is gone. The cut flower growers are about planted up and are putting the finishing touches on their houses and cleaning up, after which they will have gentlemen's jobs the balance of the year. Their stock generally looks better than usual, especially carnation plants from the field, which are fine this season. There will be about the same quantity of stock grown in this section as last year, as there has not been much new glass erected for cut flowers. The wholesale houses all seem to be well filled with fine stock, but there is not much life to the selling end. The only item that has been short was asters and these are now piling up, with the other stock, and there seems to be no
