The original 900-seat restaurant on Pushkin Square in central Moscow had 27 cash registers when it opened at dawn on 31 January 1990, the Soviet Union ended nearly 12 months later. In 2022 McDonald’s stopped operating it’s over 682 outlets in Russia after the Russian invasion of the Ukraine.

It has been reported that more than 5,000 Soviets were waiting for the 900-seat restaurant to open its doors for the first time at dawn on 31 January 1990 on Pushkin Square in Central Moscow. The new and world’s largest McDonald’s at the time set a record by serving over 30,000 people that day in central Moscow. The Soviet Union ended on 31 December of 1991. McDonald’s stopped operating it’s more than 800 fast-food outlets in Russia in 2022 after the Russian invasion of the Ukraine. The original restaurant on Pushkin Square reopened in June 2022 under Russian management as Vkusno & tochka (Tasty and that’s it). McDonald’s employed an estimated 60,000 plus people at the time they ceased operations in Russia in 2022 and in March of 2022 stated that they would continue to pay their employees. The original location on Pushkin square and most other restaurants were sold to a Russian businessman.
