Glass should always be bedded in th^ putty, and the putty should never be^tused over the glass in greenhouses. Lapped glass is almost universally used, as, compared with butted glass, it mttkes a warmer and drier roof and requires less care in sorting and laying the panes. ONE NEW JEBSEY HOUSE. I am building one greenhouse, 21x 160 feet and five feet high to the eaves. It is a detached house, run- ning east and west, and has twenty- four inches of glass in each side. The east gable is glass; the west end ad- joins the workroom and boiler shed. The boiler pit cannot be more than about three feet deep. I wish to keep a temperature of 50 to 60 degrees when the outside temperature is at zero. Here, in central New Jersey, the temperature sometimes falls as low as 3 to 5 degrees below zero, but not often. What size of boiler will be needed and how should the piping be arranged in the house, for best results? E. C. M. To heat the house described to 60 degrees in zero weather, it will be well to use a twenty horse-power boiler, al- though this will be large enough to heat another house of the same size. For radiation put in a 2%-inch main about three feet below the ridge and connect this with ten 1^4-inch pipes as returns. Part Or all of these should either be on the walls or under the side benches. Unless the lower end of the returns is three or four feet above t
