Blue plaque commemorating the anarchist Prince Peter Kropotkin, Bromley, Kent, England

Prince Peter Kropotkin, born in Moscow in 1842, was one of the first advocates of anarchist communism. He lived in Switzerland and France and was imprisoned in the Peter and Paul Fortress in St Petersburg from where he escaped. After the assassination of the Tsar Alexander II in 1881 he eventually moved to London and lived in this house in the south London suburb of Bromley from 1886 to 1914. After the Revolution he returned to Russia and died there in 1921. Blue plaques are erected to recognise those citizens who have contributed to the world around them.
