19/11/16 Waddling down a frosty lane a flock of 500 geese take their daily morning walk from their barn through the village of Croxton Kerrial, near Grantham. The geese spend their day grazing in a field over-looked by the village church in Lincolnshire, before waddling back to their warm barn again at dusk. Richard Botterill who owns Botterill & Son in Croxton Kerrial near Grantham, said: “The geese have fattened up well this year because of the warm summer - they’re about 10% heavier than normal. They’ve gained weight because they haven’t had to burn up their food just keeping warm.” But you'll need to be quick if you want to have a gander at these feathery commuters, as the six-month-old birds will all take their last stroll through the village next week as demand for goose on the Christmas dinner table continues to rise year-on-year. The farm has a total of 1500 geese and also supplies turkeys, duck and chicken for Christmas. The geese have walked through the village for 25 years. All Rights Reserved F Stop Press Ltd.
