This image may not be used to state or imply NOAO endorsement of any company or product M94 spiral galaxy (NGC 4736), optical image. This galaxy (type Sab) is seen face-on. It lies about 15 million light years away in the constellation Canes Venatici. It has an extremely bright inner region that is surrounded by fainter region of old (yellow) stars. A very faint haze surrounds these central structures. These features (not usually seen in the same image) are revealed here because of the compressed intensity mapping used. Image taken in May 1998 by the KPNO telescope, Kitt Peak, Arizona, USA.
