Instead, Mon- tana culture became much more closely linked to that of other Amazonian Indians. The Indians of the Montana subsist principally by gardening, fishing, and hunting. The tribes that live along the Ucayali and other large rivers depend greatly on fish, manatees, and turtles to supplement their diet of manioc and maize. Those living away from the main rivers rely more on hunting than on fishing.
