The plane experienced engine trouble and descended approximately 6060 feet onto French soil in a rough field after dark. The incident occurred in Montreux Chateau Alsace, Germany, during World War I. This photograph was held by the American Expeditionary Forces () Censor for official use only and was issued on September 6, 1918.
