A History of The Bank of England is necessarily a history also of thefinancial movements of Great Britain during the one hundred and fifty years nowpassed. The volume of Mr. Francis contains much that is both interesting andimportant as to the banking and currency features of the last and the presentcentury, as well as of the various crises that have disturbed European States:the loans, voluntary and forced, to those governments, and the rise and fall ofpaper money at different times.
