V1 flying bomb or doodlebug displayed at Manstone museuem. It is an early type of cruise missile. 100 a day launched at London in 1944.


The V1 flying bombs were first used against London following the allied landings in Normandy in June 1944. At peak over 100 a day were fired at London and SE England. 9,500 in total. Each had a 1,870 lb warhead and were difficult to intercept by the Allied fighters until the lighweight twin engined De Havilland Mosquito was used.
