Jonathan Brown, both avionics technicians with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, use a firewire overheat detection sytem to check for flaws in the wiring of an AV-8B Harrier in the hangar bay of the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD-3). The Marines with Marine Attack Squadron 231 perform routine maintenance on Harriers aboard the Kearsarge to ensure the aircraft remain functional while at sea. Marines and Sailors with the 22nd MEU and Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group are deployed to the 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
