The punchitself is, of course, furnished w i t h apacking which is of leather in cup form, and then the cylin-der in which the screw moves up and down, and which isscrewed into the body of the punch, is made tight bya similar packing. Into this cylin-der, again, a nut is threaded throughwhich the driving screw works, and along cup packing is placed at the lowerend of this latter also. Thus the nutthat is subjected to the wear of the driv-ing screw can be easily renewed after itis worn out, and there is no chance ofany leakage of the liquid so long as thepackings are in good condition. Finally, it will be noticed that thepackingthat protects the driving screw-is not attached to it, but is fastened toa loose plug that is driven down bythe screw and left in the lower posi-. COMBINED SCREW AND HYDRAULICPUNCH. :-■©■ 1
