The citys financial statement shows that the result ofthis first years operation of the new power house was abalance of $30,864 after deducting all costs and meeting in-terest and sinking fund. If we allow a further five per cent lor depreciation on the whole of the capital outlay forbuildings, plant and distribution system there is still left asum of over $19,000 as clear net profit. Compared withthe previous years operation of the <dd works, the powerhouse wages were reduced by 26 per cent., expenditure oncoal by 49 per cent., and the total power house costs werereduced by over 37 per cent., althnugh they represented anoutput 40 per cent, greater. Credit for these successful results must certainly bealso given to the organization and management of the citys. Fronts of Boilers—Lethbridge superintendent electrical engineer, Mr. .Arthur Reid. As a result of the above profitable operation the priceof electric light was reduced from 14 cents to a slidingscale ranging from 11 to 9 cents, power to 4 cents per for motors of 50 and Qver to $28 per year(all subject to ten per cent, discount), a figure which com-pares favorably with the best prices for water power inthe West. Even on these reduced prices the undertakingshows a balance for the first six months of 1911 of $8,414,after deducting interest and sinking fund; and, allowingfive per cent, depreciation as before, a clear net profit ofabout $3,740. The electrical output generated during the first half ofthe year was 692,000 , and the water pumped amountedto 164 million gallons, an average of about gallonsper day, though at times the demand exceeds ,000. Such results can only be obtained from the highestclass of plant givi
