Prarameswaran Subramaniam tamil hunger strike parliament square london man male protest

I only had an hour to photograph the protest. I was amazed to find that the demonstrators had been allowed to occupy the roads around the Palace of Westminster. What I witnessed in the short time I was present was a peaceful and committed demonstration including women, children and older people. I was invited by one of the demonstrators to photograph Prarameswaran Subramaniam lying on a bed in a temporary shelter in London's Parliament Square. He has been on Hunger Strike since April 7th 2009 in protest against the continuing Sri Lankan military offensive against what many believe is the last stand of the Tamil Tigers. International media has stated that innocent civilians are being killed and injured in the recent fighting. The Hunger Striker himself has lost several family members during the Subramaniam said: "This is something I chose to do. I want to do whatever I can to highlight the plight of the Tamil people who have been discriminated against for the past 60 " He hasn't eaten for 15 days and he has proclaimed not to eat again until a ceasefire was agreed.
