Bristolstavern, however, enjoyed not a long career. It ran aperiod of twelve or fifteen years when it passed to EleazerHills, who established there a grocery store. The second tavern in the settlement was that of Wil-liam Bostwick, built in 1798-1799. This was also a logstructure, somewhat larger than Bristols, of course, buthaving little more architectural beauty. It stood on thenorth side of Genesee street, the site upon which later theBeach block was erected. This crude hosterly had abriefer existence than Bristols, but was popular becauseits landlord was popular and a conspicuous figure in theaffairs of the village.
