Anti Smoking T-Shirts in Manchester UK. March, 2014. 'One in two longterm smokers die from tobacco in the UK' Smoke & Mirrors Anti-smoking Campaign Slogan. Smoke & Mirrors is run by Tobacco Free Futures as a project that actively involves young people in making decisions about their futures. Youth Ambassadors here performing dance in Manchester Piccadilly and engaging young people in anti-tobacco work. The Quit Smoking project is run by a Project Leader, and a number of Youth Ambassadors who have joined the project over the years.


Smoke & Mirrors launched in autumn 2009 in response to young people’s desire to tackle the harm caused by tobacco. Opening with a film competition which saw over 100 young people submit entries, attend weekend learning from tobacco Specialists, media specialists and some of the cast from Hollyoaks. The winning films were then shown at a glitzy premiere, before the being shown throughout cinemas in the North West. In Early 2010 there was another event held again providing opportunities for young people throughout the North West to learn about the industry, its practises and tactics. We also attended the British American Tobacco Company AGM where young people were able to engage directly with the shareholders and put their concerns across 2012 saw the Watching me watching you event take place, again providing an opportunity for young people to work directly with professionals, this time from public health, the media, marketing and the arts to investigate the role of tobacco use in the entertainment media, and the role of packaging in encouraging young people to take up smoking.
