Ideal Considerations It is maintained that the theoreticallyideal method of making sound, homo-geneous steel is undoubtedly with thebig-end-up mold, because the increasing-ly large area of the ingot towards thetop compensates automatically for anyirregularities in the temperature of thesteel or in the teeming practice.
