Black Nab, Saltwick Bay, taken shortly after dawn
Black Nab sea stack at Saltwick Bay, North Yorkshire. Image taken shortly after dawn as the tide turned. The iconic shaped Black Nab is a submarine-shaped outcrop formed from harder shale than its surroundings and has become iconic because of its shape. The fine textured shale that surrounds the rock was formed by the compression of fine silt beds.
