Brown-throated sunbird perched on a hibiscus plant.

The brown-throated sunbird is a common garden bird that feeds on nectar, small spiders and insects. The male is one of the most beautifully-coloured birds around (see photo). The female is just plain olive-green in colour with a bright yellow breast and belly. Its scientific name is Anthreptes malacensis and its local Malaysian name is kelicap mayang kelapa.
