Orchid flower (Phalaenopsis cornu-cervi). Most of the petals and sepals are green with red spots, but one petal is white (centre). This is the lip, a specialised structure that attracts pollinators and provides them with a landing platform. This orchid is found in tropical areas of South-East Asia and south to Indonesia. It is an epiphytic orchid (one that grows in trees). There are more than 30,000 species of orchids worldwide, many of which are grown as ornamental flowers.
