A large brown olive or grayish crocodile dark bands on back and tail may be visible in younger individuals distinguished from Caiman by longer more slender more pointed snout and having one large tooth on each side of lower jax that projects sharply upwards fitting into a notch on upper jaw that can be seen when jaws are closed Pacific and Caribbean coastal lowlands in brackish or freshwater in or near swamps mangrove swamps rivers
