Mountain Gorilla, Bwindi, Uganda
A mountain gorilla living in the Bwindi Impenetrable forest in Uganda. These gorillas are habituated and are visited by a small group of people each day. The income from these visits helps to maintain their habitat as a valued resource. A permit to visit the gorillas is required costing $500 per person in 2012. Treks may take between 30 minutes and many hours depending upon the location of the group. Porters help to carry rucksacks and help trekkers over the more difficult parts of the terrain. Each trek allows for about one hour in the company of the gorilla family.
