HISTORICAL. j]N order to understand the English Lan-guage and Literature thoroughly, we need acertain familiarity with the geography andhistory of England, and other parts of Europe. We see, by reference to the map, that Englandis a division of the British Isles, which lie off thewestern coast of the continent of Europe, onlyseparated from it by a narrow channel.
