Robot camera. Shuttle astronaut releases the Auto- nomous Extravehicular Robotic Camera Sprint (AERCam sprint, white sphere). This prototype is designed to inspect the International Space Stat- ion's exterior using a television camera. This free-flying module carries short-term astronomy experiments. It is deployed at the start of a shuttle mission and retrieved some days later. At right, the SPARTAN-201 satellite is being stored in the shuttle's cargo bay. Photographed aboard the Columbia during shuttle mission STS-87 (19 November to 5 December 1997).
