Michelle Reid (61) is a landscape designer and horticulturalist. Here she is checking the quinces for ripeness (not quite ready), and about to explain they can be ripened off the tree and need to be yellow not green for maximum flavour. Quinces are an autumn fruit, but this tree in Blenheim has cropped a box of quinces, with more coming on in late summer 2020. The tree is between a vineyard and a house, and the building visible on the left is an old dairy, now used for accommodation.
