The blood glucose test uses a small machine that provid es a digital readout of the patients blood glucose leve l. It measures the amount of glucose in the blood. The test is used to detect both hyperglycemia and hypogly cemia and to help diagnose diabetes. Diabetics must mon itor their own blood glucose levels to determine how fa r above or below normal their glucose level is. Knowing the level helps determine what oral medications or ins ulin(s) needed.
