Dr. Hetzel came to Penn State on De-cember 15, 1926, from the University ofNew Hampshire where he served as presidentfor nine years. The student body herethen numbered 3100 as compared to morethan 10,500 today; the faculty and stafftotaled 850 as compared to more than 1500now. During the past 20 years, the ppl-lege has conferred 23,753 degrees as com-pared to 9,026 degrees during the ternsof the nine presidents who preceeded DrVHetzel, The number of curricula offeredhas been increased from 38 to 56». The scope of both extension and re-search activities has been greatly ex-panded. Expenditures for extension haveincreased from $767,050 in 1926 to$1,910,124 in 1946 while expenditures forresearch have increased from $189,936 to$2,524,,578, Total expenditures for theCollege in 1926 were $3,033,992 as com-pared to $9,583,581 for 1946, Mcdonald named director of speech and hearing clinic Dr, Eugene T, McDonald, assistantprofessor of clinical speech, has beenpromoted to associate professor of speechand speech education, and also has beennamed director of the speech and hearingclinic, McDonald, who joined the faculty asa graduate assistant in clinical speechin 1938, succeeds Dr, Herbert Koepp-Baker, who „-esigned on June 30.
