Brain anatomy, computer artwork. The right cerebral hemisphere (pink) is covered by the dura mater (white), one of the three meninges (membranes) that covers and protects the brain and spinal cord. The curved white and pink structure at centre right is the cingulate gyrus, part of the brain's limbic system, a primitive part of the brain involved in emotions, learning and the formation of memories. It surrounds the putamen (oval), which regulates movements and influences this is the brainstem, which controls automatic functions, sleep and arousal and relays messages from the brain to the spinal cord (yellow, bottom).
