This must be nearly asgreat as that which the sections indicate as having prevailed near Sacra-mento in 1885, or about 50 per cent of the original waterway at a bank-full stage. The deposits in the river channel above American River tothe mouth of Feather River have not been much less than those belowAmerican River, and it is, therefore, safe to estimate the reduction forthe entire river division from the mouth of Feather River to the headof Grand Island at 40 per cent of the original waterway, as elsewherenoted.
