Remains of the gold mining settlement part of the Bendigo Historic Reserve in the Central Otago Goldfield, New Zealand. The settlement consisted of three main areas, Bendigo, Welshtown and Logantown. The area contained some of the richest gold workings in New Zealand. Fortunes were made (and lost) gold was discovered here in 1862 and high yields were obtained at first. However this soon declined but in 1863 Thomas Logan discovered gold-bearing quartz reefs in the hillside. Eventually this area was to have 52 mine shafts seeking the gold. The area supported 3 main settlements, Bendigo at the bottom of the hill, Logantown higher up and Welshtown at the top.
