Above the colonnade the en-tablature and parapet, broken by thesmall projecting pediment, carry thefacade to a height of 105 feet fromthe sidewalk. Above all, and at thecentre, is that necessity to railroadstations, the clock, with a dial 12feet in diameter. The top of theclock case bears an eagle with wingspartly spread. Across the wings theeagle measures eight feet. Overeach of the two piers which markthe entrance is a flagstaff, 60 feet inheight. All of the curved portion is built ofStony Creek granite, and nearly allthe remaining front is of this stone,but on each side of the colonnade thegranite is relieved by large, dark buffmottled bricks. On the central por-tion the granite is pointed and cut, but the remaining ashlar is rockfaced, laid in regular courses.
