Queen Square, Wolverhampton, Early 20th cent. People and buildings in Queen Square. In the centre stands the statue of Prince Albert on horseback to commemorate Queen Victoria's visit to Wolverhampton in 1866. The building behind houses the existing premises of Barclays Bank (2007). In the left foreground are public conveniences for ladies and gentlemen. Behind stands St. Peter's Collegiate Church and Lich Gates. To the far right can just be seen the town's Art Gallery. The presence of the soldier (right) suggests that this photograph may have been taken some time during the First World War (1914-1918).
