Trilobite fossil. Fossil of the trilobite Leonaspis maura. This trilobite lived from the Lower Silurian to the Middle Devonian period (around 438-380 million years ago). The trilobites are an extinct group of marine arthropods with a hard, segmented shell that is divided into 3 sections. L. maura was distributed over regions now covered by the land masses of Europe and North and South America. It had long, curved spines projecting from the sides of its head, body and tail, as seen here. Most trilobites were bottom dwellers, feeding on organic sediment on the ocean floor or by catching their own prey. Found in Morocco.
