MILLISLE, NORTHERN IRELAND: THIS ABANDONED juvenile prison housed young boys who were in for crimes in the 1970?s and 80?s relating to the Troubles in Northern Ireland before the borstal was shut down after allegations of abuse and image taken showed the height measurements still on the wall that would have been used to measure the inmates that came through the borstal. Another shot taken shows a picture of Wolverine, an X-Men character on the wall, showing how young some of the boys were that were placed in these terrible conditions. Freelance photographer Jordan L. (24) from London, United kingdom explored the vast grounds of Lisnevin Training School Borstal located in Millisle, Northern Ireland which had a history of housing troubled adolescent boys aged between ten-years old to 17-years old. The borstal had housed a number of boys who were under assessment for terrorist offences relating to the Troubles in Northern Ireland, those with disturbed or violent behaviour, and young boys who were simply stated as ?out of control?. Lisnevin Training School was a secured borstal that opened in 1973, right at the height of the conflict during the Troubles in Northern Ireland, on the outskirts of Newtownards before being moved to Bangor five miles away because of criticism by locals, before finding a place in Millisle, County Down in 1981. The borstal closed down in 2003 due to allegations of neglect, abuse, and overcrowding. Accounts of the neglect have surfaced from those who had stayed at the Borstal, with one boy claiming he was hit over the head with a staff member?s knuckles because he looked down a corridor, whereas another claimed that guards had pushed pressure points on his body while he was restrained so that he would fall unconscious. Claims of physical, sexual and emotional abuse haunted the now abandoned building, with stories of prisoners being held in isolation for days at a time and beaten into submis
