Not easily stimulated when the biceps is intact. Median and Ulnar Nerves.—The ulnar and median nerves are easilystimulated simultaneously throughout the groove at the inner side ofthe biceps muscle (sulcus bicipitalis internus). The best position of the arm for the stimulation of these nerves andtheir muscles is one of very slight flexion, with greatest possible relaxa-tion of the muscles. Only a weak current is needed. THE MOTOR POINTS 167 In the hand the thenar and hypothenar muscles are most easilystimulated, and the lumbricales are often difficult to reach. The reactionof the forearm and hand differ greatly in different people. Median Nerve.—Action.—Pronation of the forearm, flexion andabduction of the hand, opposition and flexion of the thumb, flexion ofthe second and third phalanges of the fingers. Motor Points.—(1) In the middle of the elbow-joint, usually directlyoutside of the biceps tendon. (2) In the middle of the wrist-joint,between the tendons of the flexor carpi radialis and palmaris longus, orat the ulnar border of the latter. Motor Points for the Muscles.—Pronator Radii Teres.
