It will be seen, as in Table 3, that, in general, the production of those woods cut in the Northeastern, Lake, and Central States is de- clining, while the production of those cut in the Southern and North- western States is increasing. This, of course, does not hold true' in every case. For instance, the fluctuating markets of 1914 and 1915 caused Douglas fir production to drop but spruce to rise.
