Mary, Queen of Scots (1542 – 1587), was Queen Regent of Scotland from 1542 to 1567. In 1566, Scottish peers, known as the Confederate Lords, raised an army against her. Queen Mary's army confronted them at Carberry Hill, near Musselburgh, East Lothian, on 15 June but her forces dwindled away and she surrendered.
