TROOST, Wilhelmus, portrait and landscapepainter, was born at Amsterdam in 1685. He wasa pupil of Johann Glauber, but went to Diisseldorfto complete his studies, and there married thedaughter of J. Van Nikkelen, painter to the visiting several German courts, he returnedto his own country. He painted for twelve yearsat Haarlem, and afterwards settled at occasionally painted portraits, but chiefly de-. <3 I p w ou u H Q ObW uu PAINTERS AND ENGRAVERS. voted his time to landscapes, both in oil and Indianink ; the latter are considered valuable. His stylein landscape partakes of that of his first master,Glauber. He died at Amsterdam in 1759. Hiswife, Jacoba Maria van Nikkelen, was also apainter; she had been a pupil of Van der Mijn, andexcelled in fruit and flower-pieces. E. S. TROOSTWIJK, Wouter Johannes van, a land-scape and cattle painter, born at Amsterdam, May28, 1782, studied drawing under Anthonie Andries-sen, and painting under Jurriaan Andriessen. Hispictures have a resemblance to those of Paul Potter,Karel Du Jardin, and Adrian Van de Velde, and someare worthy to rank with theirs. He practised inAmsterdam, where he died September 20, are landscapes by him in the Museums ofAmsterdam and Rotterdam. TROPPA, Girolamo, painter, flourished in Italyabout 1700.
