After anhours cannonade, the troops moved forwardand assailed the Grivitza heights. The westernextremity of the trenches was carried after adesperate struggle, in which both sides freelyused the bayonet. The Vologda regiment, withpart of the Archangel regiment on its left, not-withstanding a withering fire from the Turkishshelter-trenches, was able to continue theadvance ; and, after repelling a succession of Verbitza.
