Roosevelt party at Yellowstone. US President Theodore Roosevelt (centre, 1858-1919) with US naturalist John Burroughs (white beard, 1837-1921), at Fort Yellowstone, Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, USA. At far left is Yellowstone's acting superintendent and US Army officer Major John Pitcher (1854-1926). Pitcher supervised the park from 1901 to 1907 during a period of military administration. This photograph is dated circa 11 June 1903, and was taken during Roosevelt's Western Tour through Wyoming in 1903. Burroughs, noted for his nature writings, published a memoir of the trip.
