Omahuta Forest is one of the most impressive remaining Kauri forest in New Zealand. Kauri is a coniferous tree of Araucariaceae in the genus Agathis native to the northern region of New Zealand's north island. Omahuta Sanctuary Walk offers a great opportunity to admire a magnificent part of this subtropical ecosystem - even in the fog. Die Kauri-Bäume aus der Araukariengruppe wachsen ausschließlich im Norden der Nordinsel Neuseelands. Einer der letzten dieser Wälder ist der Omahuta Forest in der Provinz Northland. Der Omahuta-Sanctury-Weg führt in einen besonders schönen Teil dieses Ökosystems mit einer Reihe alter Kauri-Bäume, die auch im Nebel tief beeindrucken.
