The illumination from the lamp is concentrated by meansof condensing lenses on the opaque object, as shown in thediagram. From the opaque object it is reflected through theobjective lens to the screen, suftcring a transposition and inver-sion as it is projected. For this reason it is necessary to insertthe opaque ol)ject upside down, as it is in the case of theslide, and if it is essential that the objects show properly fromleft to right in the image which is projected on the screen,a transposing mirror must be inserted. This may be insertedbetween the opaque object and the objective lens, as in thecase of the ]\Iultiopticon, or between the objective lens andthe screen. The use of this mirror slightly reduces the bril-liancy of illumination. With either type a good ])icture can be projected u]) toabout nine feet square, at a distance of not more than aboutthirty feet from the Path of Light in Opaque Projection with the Multiopticon.
