JOHN MANEELY, K»-S11-818 Aich PHILADELPHIA, PA. foot south wall containing two feet of glass, and with a total height of twelve feet to the ridge, the house to be heated to 60 degrees? How much larger would the boiler have to be to heat another house like No. 1, built onto the south side of No. 1, with the partition be- tween the two taken outf W. S. G. For heating this range of houses, I would suggest running three 2%-inch flow pipes from the boiler room to the west end of house No. 1, placing one of them on each plate and the other about a foot under the ridge. From the flow pipe on the south wall take off three 2-inch returns, which should be carried back to the boiler on the south wall. With the middle flow pipe supply two returns, which can be supported either from the roof or on the posts under the ridge or the purlins. Two 2-inch returns should also be connected with the flow pipe on the north wall of house No. 1 and carried upon the north wall below the flow pipe. For heating houses No. 2 and 3, take off four more 2-inch returns from the flow pipe upon the north wall of house No. 1, and run two of them on the south wall and the others on the north wall of house No. 2. The two 2-inch pipes on the south wall of house No. 2 should be carried into house No. 3; after taking off two other 2-inch returns from them, making four in this house, carry them under the propagating bed. Owing to the door in the east end of house No. 2, it will be necessary to connect the two returns on the north wall of that house and, after dropping the return to the ground, carry it back to the boiler, un- less it is possible to connect it with the main return from house No. 3. To heat the present houses and, in ad- dition, the house 21^^x45, as described, it will be well to select a boiler with a ratin
