Roboticist with Cog robot. US roboticist Brian Scassellati interacting with the Cog robot at the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA. Cog (short for cognitive) is a robotic platform that was developed from 1990 by researchers at the Humanoid Robotics Group at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA. It was used to explore human and artificial intelligence (AI). It can co-ordinate its hearing and visual systems to pinpoint a noise source, make eye contact with humans, and track a moving object. Scassellati received his PhD from MIT in 2001, and went on to became a professor at Yale University.
