The disease does not appear iu this case to havecommenced within the jaw, but in a gland which becameadherent to the jaw (?). The patient, aged eighteen, died ayear after the first appearance of the disease, from suffoca-tion and exhaustion. I have recently had under my care a very interesting caseof medullary disease of the lower jaw, in a little girl, agedfive—one of a numerous and healthy family, who was inperfect health until seven weeks before I saw her. Themother then noticed that the second temporary molar toothon the right side was loose, and the gum swollen; and atumour developed so rapidly, that when I saw her the side Fig. of the face was considerably enlarged, and a large fungousmass protruded into the mouth. On September 10th, 1867,I removed the right side of the jaw from close to the sym-physis to the articulation, and the preparation (Museum ofCollege of Surgeons, 1057 A) accompanied this essay. On Oct. 2Gth, 1867, I removed the whole of the disease 320 TUMOURS OF THE LOWER JAW. again, cutting the jaw on the left side immediately in frontof the second molar tooth, and removing the whole of theskin involved in the fungus. The patient made a go
